The Benefits

I have been meditating for sixteen years and in my experience, meditation has been a transformative tool in helping me stay centered, calm and peaceful. It helps create distance from our chattery minds, enabling us to lessen negative emotions and thought patterns. Meditation gives us a space to be still and connect to ourselves. It helps bring more peace, stillness, joy and clarity to our lives and reduces anxiety, stress and depression. In fact, there is extensive research available that demonstrates that regular meditation positively changes the structure of our brains.

How the Course Works

Each session I will introduce to the week's theme and talk you through the meditation of the week.  We will get settled in our posture and I will guide you through the meditation which will last between 15-20 minutes. After the meditation, there will be time for those who wish to, to share experiences or ask questions. We will then try the meditation again. You can either sit on a cushion or on a chair. (Please let me know in advance if you'd prefer a chair.) At the end of the class I will give you a hand-out of the week's meditation for you to practice at home.

Here is the programme for the 6 week course;

  • Week 1: Melting the Ice (Mindfulness of Breathing Meditation; helps calm our chatty minds, let go of anxiety and encourages calm, stillness and focus)

  • Week 2: Coming Home (Body Awareness Meditation; helps us connect back to our bodies and deal better with uncomfortable body sensations)

  • Week 3: Heartfulness (Loving Kindness Meditation; helps generate feelings of kindness & friendliness towards ourselves and others)

  • Week 4: Monkey Mind (Thoughts & Sounds Meditation: helps us create distance from our thoughts and recognise our repetitive thought patterns)

  • Week 5: Sitting with the Dragons (Body Sensation Meditation; encourages healing and softening of uneasy feelings) Candlelit Session

  • Week 6: Letting Be (Insight meditation: Helps us be at ease with ourselves and our experience, encouraging inner peace and calm.)
